Healthcare

Children's Medical Center - APGS | Dallas, TX
System Description
In 2018, Children's Health formed a Parking & Transportation Advisory Committee with the goal of transforming the parking & transportation experiences on its flagship Dallas campus. As a long-time technology partner, NextGen was selected to serve on the committee in order to recommend technology solutions to parking problems revealed through the collaborative discussions with numerous internal and external stakeholders. Early in the discussions, it was clear that the biggest parking issue on campus was the challenge faced by patients & visitors in finding an available parking space with Childrens' parking facilities regularly operating at over 90% capacity. One major contributor to the problem was the fact that the hospital lacked an efficient way to prevent employees from parking in spaces designated for patients & visitors while also ensuring that employees are able to quickly find available parking spaces. After discussing multiple parking guidance recommendations from NextGen and entertaining competing providers, it was determined that the best solution to solve Children's problems was the Spot Control camera-based Automatic Parking Guidance System (APGS) from Quercus. Among the deciding factors in selecting the Quercus solution is Quercus' expertise in providing efficient, highly-accurate license plate recognition (LPR) in both parking guidance applications and in-lane parking access and revenue control applications, allowing for seamless integration between the APGS and PARCS. Completed in April 2020, the 3-garage installation comprised of 990 Spot Control sensors monitoring 3,314 parking spaces, the system regularly performs at greater than 99% accuracy. Additionally, due to the Quercus Birdwatch software's whitelist & blacklist capabilities, Parking Operations is notified any time an employee parks in a space which is designated for patients and visitors and can also be notified anytime a vehicle which is banned from the Children's campus (i.e. - license plates tied to Amber Alerts, registered sex offenders, & the like) in order to improve enforcement and campus security.
